On July 5, the IOCM received Fionnuala Flynn of Caritas Europe for a lecture at Carl-Zeiß-Str. 3. Around 20 students came as well as some members of the Chair of International Relations, including Head Prof. Dr. Rafael Biermann.
Originally from Ireland, Flynn today works as Humanitarian Advocacy Officer for the relief organisation in Brussels. During the enthralling lecture, students of the IOCM and political sciences gained major insights in the workings of humanitarian aid, structure and workings of such a large organisation and especially, the situation in Ukraine. Having worked in the field herself for some time, Flynn could give the audience a clear view on how humanitarian aid is done on the ground, what risks there are and how humanitarian organisations cooperate with people in the respective countries. During as well as after the lecture, participants had the chance to ask questions which was avidly done.
The lecture was mainly organised by staff member Dr. Carolina Rehrmann.
